Educational Qualification

Candidates aspiring for the WB Police Constable positions must have passed the Madhyamik Examination from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent. A crucial requirement is speaking, reading, and writing the Bengali language. However, this language proficiency requirement does not apply to permanent residents of the hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts, where different linguistic provisions apply.

Age Limit

The age criteria set for candidates is a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 30 years as of 01/01/2024. The recruitment process offers relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates belonging to specific categories as follows:
  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC-A/OBC-B: 3 years
  • Transgender: 3 years
  • Civic Volunteers: 5 years

Selection Process

The selection process for the Constable posts in West Bengal Police involves several stages designed to assess the candidates’ suitability for the role comprehensively. These stages include:

WBP Constable Selection Process 2024

Selection process for the post of Constable in WBP consists of four stages, which are Prelims, PMT & PET, Mains and Interview.

Prelims:

  • Mode: Offline (Written Exam)
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Marking Scheme: Each question carries 1 mark.
  • Sections:
    • General awareness & Knowledge: 40 questions (40 marks)
    • Elementary Mathematics: 30 questions (30 marks)
    • Reasoning: 30 questions (30 marks)
  • Medium: English and Bengali

PET

  • Constable (Male):
    • Height (Barefoot): 167 cm
    • Weight: 57 kg
    • Chest: 78 cms. (without expansion) / 83 cms. (with expansion – 5 cms.)
  • Gorkhas, Garhwalies, Rajbanshis, and Scheduled Tribes (Male):
    • Height (Barefoot): 160 cm
    • Weight: 53 kg
    • Chest: 76 cms. (without expansion) / 81 cms. (with expansion – 5 cms.)
  • Lady Constable:
    • Height (Barefoot): 160 cm
    • Weight: 49 kg
  • Gorkhas, Garhwalies, Rajbanshis, and Scheduled Tribes (Female):
    • Height (Barefoot): 152 cm
    • Weight: 45 kg

PMT:

  • Constable (Male):
    • 1600 meters distance run in 6 minutes 30 seconds.
  • Lady Constable:
    • 800 meters run in 4 minutes 30 seconds.

Mains:

  • Mode: Offline (Written Exam)
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Total Questions: 85
  • Total Marks: 85
  • Marking Scheme: Each question carries 1 mark.
